Ian and I have both tried to get Jack to walk behind his walker over the last couple weeks but he just didn't seem all that interested. Today, I went up to the kitchen to grab my tea and I looked down and he had pulled himself up and was walking behind the walker. Yeah! Hopefully soon he'll get the confidence to start walking! Here are some videos. I couldn't decide which one was the best so I thought I'd just post them all!

Snow in April...UGH!!
It's the end of April and we have snow. How wonderful it is to be in Edmonton;) Apparently some people thought it would be only a day of snow then melt away back to beautiful Edmonton bliss...but that has not been the case. Today is the 3rd day of snow...we have drifts 2 feet high in our backyard. Here is a picture from Sunday (the 2nd day it snowed).

Well...no sense sitting around wallowing in self pity...may as well make use of what Mother Nature has given us!

Jack was really good today...I am doing some contract work so I was on the phone a good part of the day and he did a really good job entertaining himself (amazing for him...really). But at dinner time he had an absolute melt down...over nothing of particular consequence...but he had a melt down. Then promptly fell asleep in his high chair. He only slept about 15 minutes...but it was so cute I had to get a picture! After the snooze, he was in excellent spirits and stayed up past his bedtime! (This is the first time EVER he has fallen asleep in his high chair.)

1 Year Old - Videos!
Some videos for your enjoyment! I'm sorry...I can't figure out how to flip the video image from sideways to upright:( I'm sure I could figure it out but I'm too tired to do it right now!! Enjoy anyway:)
1 Year Old! Lots and Lots of Pictures
It all started one year ago (okay...really...1 year and 9 months ago!). Here is Ian with Jack minutes after he was born.

Here I am with Jack maybe 30 minutes or so after he was born (we were in the recovery room).
And here we are, 1 year later...on Jack's 1st birthday. We didn't have a little party until the 13th but this photo was taken on his real birthday.

Another photo on his 1 year birthday. Just exploring the kitchen! His face is so funny I had to post this photo!
Here are me and Jack, just before our guests arrived for lunch and cupcakes to celebrate Jack's birthday. We had Tom, Sheryl and their two girls over (Jordan (6) and Morgan (3)). It was nice to have them over so it felt like a little bit of a party.

Ian and Jack before the party started! Jack loves the balloon (the other side says Happy Birthday).

We ate lunch first then we got our party hats on, put a birthday boy pin on Jack and then brought out the cupcakes. I like how Jack looks barely tolerant of the process in this picture!
FIRE! FIRE!!! I don't think Jack felt this was a very responsible birthday celebration:) I did not make the cupcakes...I made everything else for lunch but decided to buy the sweet stuff so it had maximum sugar content!

He seemed to like the chocolate cupcake but didn't go as ape crazy as I thought he would. Perhaps that's because he just had waffles, syrup and whipped cream!
He didn't get too messy! But his hands were all gross and sticky and messy!

See...even he doesn't like his hands dirty.

Okay - that's enough fun for one day:)

The temperature in our backyard for Jack's birthday party.

A corner of our backyard...a shot of our rock pond.

Almost One Year Old...but not quite...
A few pictures and one video to keep everyone updated!!
A video of Jack doing what he does best!

I decided to let Jack try feed himself with a spoon (applesauce was the food of choice for this experiment...non staining). It was not overly successful but it was the first time!

A video of Jack doing what he does best!
We probably should have posted this with the last post! Welcome to Alberta!! Ian took a couple pictures while driving to our new house with Benson and Simon (I'm sure he did it very 'safely' while also paying full attention to the road).

Jack's fairy godparents came to visit the first weekend we were here. They were in town for a curling tournament and stopped by to drop off a birthday present for their little monkey. Jack's godfather (Jay) is originally from Edmonton...Sue is from Red Deer (now they both live in Vancouver).

Jack promptly figured out how to open cupboards and which ones had fun stuff to play with. Thankfully he does not consider the onion/potato/cleaning supply/dishsoap cupboard 'fun'!! We just bought locks to put on the cupboards so they will go on this weekend probably. This cupboard that he is exploring here has the tupperware and saranwrap/foil. I don't really let him play with the wrap stuff but every once in a while he grabs one and pulls out reams and reams of foil or sandwich bags before I can grab it from him!

Jack with his most prized tupperware possession!! We get a lot of sunshine in our kitchen (it actually gets quite warm) and I didn't really notice that the light was on his face for the picture. But I still think it's kinda cute!

I decided to let Jack try feed himself with a spoon (applesauce was the food of choice for this experiment...non staining). It was not overly successful but it was the first time!

This is the barricade I put up to block Jack from going up the stairs. However, I left the room for a minute and came back and couldn't find him. Turns out he managed to scale the barricade and get up the stairs! Yikes!!
So this is the new barricade I put up to block Jack from going up the stairs. Clearly he's trying to determine how best to get around it. A few minutes later he determined that he could crawl UNDER the blue chair, squeeze through the small opening at the first stair and get up the stairs! So now I have a bigger more intricate barricade set up. Perhaps today I'll venture out and get those baby gates (note: the reason we have not put up gates yet is because the stairs are too wide...so we need to get gates that have extension options...even a regular gate at full width does not fit!!).

Howdy from Edmonton!
Okay...actually we live in St.Albert (despite the title of this post)...but seriously - no one knows where that is...so it's easier to say Edmonton.
The move went well for the most part - I find packing and unpacking very stressful so I wasn't in the best of moods for a few days on either end. BUT, everything arrived - and only a few things were damaged (filing cabinet, deck chair cover, and dryer...boo).
The weather here is not too bad - a little chilly at times but not that same 'damp cold' that you get in Vancouver; so even at -10 it's not too bad at all. Today it was -9 in the morning and +9 in the afternoon...I'm really not used to those sorts of temperature swings so trying to decide how to dress Jack (and me) is proving a bit of a challenge...I know that sounds ridiculous but I find we're either too cold or too hot...but I'll figure it out.
Jack was a little 'off' for a week or so. He had to sleep in his playpen first at Baba and Grandpa's (the Caldwell's) and then in the new house. Then he got a cold. And he definitely figured out how to take advantage of the situation at the grandparents...I really didn't want to let him cry and wake everyone up at night so after one night of rocking him back to sleep at 3am (for 10 minutes), the next night it was 30 minutes then about 90 minutes each night between 3am-4:30am...UGH!!! But once we were in our new house that ended...not without a little complaining from a certain someone (not me) but now Jack is back to sleeping 7pm (or so) until 7am (or so).
Some recent changes with Jack...I've been putting him onto the 'daycare' schedule. I figured we may as well get him ready in advance so it's not such a change for him all at once. So that means ONE NAP PER DAY...sigh. But he sleeps about 2-3 hours during that nap so it's not too bad! So (for those who are interested) he gets up around 7am, has breakfast about 7:30am, lunch at 10:30am (I know...weird) and then down for a nap at 11:30am. Then bottle when he gets up, then lunch at 2:30pm then dinner at 5pm or so. It's really weird but he seems to like it so I'm not complaining! Oh - and Jack has started having milk now. I'm mixing it with formula but within a couple weeks he'll be 100% milk!! Yeah...no more expensive formula:) He hasn't had any tummy troubles with the milk and actually really seems to like it. And...despite a couple weeks of horrible eating (he just started refusing most food, was a difficult eater, etc.) now he is back on track...eating pretty much whatever I give him...we have recently added cheese, dried apricots, grapes, sliced deli ham, apple, banana (hallelujah...he's actually eating fruit without freaking out!!), and pieces of caramel rice cakes for a treat (he smells sooooo yummy after he eats those rice cakes). Oh...and Jack now knows how to climb stairs...and he's very fast at it. And he does the cutest 'trick'...when you ask him "how big are you" he throws both arms up in the air as you say "big boy". I'll try post some video in the next few days as well!!
So, yeah...that's pretty much all that is new. I have started looking for a job. I sent out a bunch of resumes yesterday and have one interview set up. There are lots of jobs in my field available so I hope I find a good one! Ian is doing well at his job, very very busy but he seems to enjoy it. Oh - we bought air conditioning...not installed yet but in the next little while. I know we're wimps...they say the summers are really hot here and I hate the heat and don't really want to deal with a fussy baby (ahem...JACKSON...) during the heat while we are both working as well...so we spoiled ourselves....so anyone who wants to visit during the summer - our house will be cool:)
All these pictures were taken before we moved. I'll try post new ones shortly. We miss everyone...phone us lots!! Talk to you soon.

Jack's teeth! He's got 4 on top. Here (on his 11 month b-day) he had 3 on the bottom. A few days after we packed up our house another one cut through on the bottom. So now he has 4 on bottom and 4 on top!
The poor cat (Simon). Good news is that Simon is very gentle (usually) with Jack even though Jack grabs at him and pats him quite hard. Although, I've been quite surprised that Jack is actually not too harsh with the pets...he tries to be gentle but really lacks the self control to regulate the 'power' of his grabbing!!

Here is Jack on his 11 month birthday. Can you believe he's 1 in two weeks???
At our Cloverdale house. Jack discovered he was tall enough to look out the window. He very much enjoyed doing that with Benson along side...and sometimes Dad!

Also taken on his 11 month birthday. He was not a very happy guy that day so I thought I'd better get some shots of the faces that I see regularly!
